Clay Jail Release Paths
Clay County Jail is the county jail operated by the Clay County Sheriff. It holds people awaiting trial and people serving court-imposed county sentences. A departure can follow a pretrial release order, dismissal, acquittal, time served, completion of a county sentence, or another court-authorized event. Yet a departure can also be a transfer. IDOC, another county jail, federal custody, or immigration custody may become the next custodian.
The public inmate feed is a current-custody tool. Its sampled records carried the code IN. It did not expose a release date, release reason, destination, or historical release archive. When a name drops away, ask the sheriff whether the event was release to the community or transfer to a named agency. Then use the court docket to identify the order or sentence that authorized the movement.

Confirm Clay Jail Release
Use a two-record check whenever possible. The sheriff controls the physical custody fact. The Clay Circuit Court controls the legal case event. A signed order may appear before jail processing is complete, while a jail timestamp does not by itself explain whether a charge was dismissed, a sentence ended, or another hold remained.
- Search the sheriff’s live inmate feature only to test current custody. Record the time and exact status.
- Call the jail at (618) 665-3316 and ask whether the person was released or transferred. Use full name, date of birth, booking date, and local ID when known.
- Check the Clay case through the Circuit Clerk’s official court page and its Judici link. Read the actual disposition or release order.
- If another custodian was named, check the matching IDOC, BOP, ICE, or county system.
- Request the booking and release log when an exact time, authority, or destination is needed.
Clay Jail Records Request
The Clay County FOIA process accepts written requests by delivery or email. Direct a sheriff request to Sheriff Andy Myers, P.O. Box 267, Louisville, IL 62858. Identify the person and the exact period. Ask expressly for the booking and release log entry, release date and time, release authority or reason, destination or receiving agency if releasable, and booking photograph if needed for record identification.
Illinois FOIA allows the first 50 black-and-white letter or legal pages without a copy charge. Additional pages cost 15 cents each. A request can also seek a fee waiver. The sheriff’s official request form asks for requester contact details, dates, incident information, the record type, copy preference, and any waiver request. Give a booking number, case number, arrest date, and approximate release date when available.

Clay Feed Field Limits
The official Clay feed has shown a full name, local inmate ID, physical descriptors, booking time, custody-status time, reporting agency data, charge array, image reference, VINE identifiers, and the current code. The July 2026 sample had blank charge arrays and placeholder images. These are observations from one changing interface, not a promise that every record always contains the same fields.
Several facts needed for a release claim were absent: the release date, reason, destination, bond or pretrial disposition, and a 24-hour or 72-hour flag. For that reason, the feed is useful for current custody but weak for historical Clay County Jail release research. Clay Court Release Evidence
The Clay Circuit Clerk’s file can remain available after the live jail entry disappears. It may preserve charges, appearances, release conditions, disposition, sentence, custody credit, probation, conditional discharge, and later compliance or revocation entries. Read each label on its own terms. A dismissal proves the stated charge ended. It does not prove that no other case or custodian existed at that moment.
A sentencing entry with custody credit may show why a county term was satisfied. Still, the exact physical departure time comes from the sheriff. If the court committed the person to IDOC, the Clay departure was a custodial transfer rather than a community release. For precise claims, cite the court order for legal authority and the sheriff record for execution.
Clay Jail Logistics Unknown
No official source reviewed through July 16, 2026 verified a fixed release hour, weekend or holiday protocol, exit door, family waiting area, property-return process, or transportation home. No county-specific jail credit policy, annual release count, average stay, or release fee was verified either. These points should be confirmed directly with the jail instead of borrowed from another Illinois county.
The county’s published description says the sheriff is warden, and IDOC published a 2024 county-jail inspection. State inspection does not convert Clay County Jail into a state prison. Many pretrial, dismissal, and county-sentence releases will never appear in IDOC because the person was not admitted to state custody.
Clay Release Fraud Check
Pretrial supervision is not sentence completion. The Office of Statewide Pretrial Services in Clay County warns that it does not charge for GPS monitoring or supervision. A caller who demands money for a special release or monitoring plan should not be treated as proof that release is approved.
Verify the court order and contact the published OSPS or sheriff number. Do not send funds based only on an unsolicited call. The court establishes the pretrial terms, while the sheriff confirms whether physical release processing occurred and whether another hold prevented departure.
Clay Release Record Review
A complete Clay County Jail release claim identifies the person, booking, timestamp, departure type, and legal authority. Preserve the exact sheriff and court terms. If the sheriff says transfer, name a receiving agency only when the record supplies it. If the court says pretrial release, do not call that sentence completion. When IDOC later shows admission, explain that the person entered state custody rather than the community.
Court entry time, physical exit time, VINE alert time, and receiving-agency admission time can differ. Match each source to its function, retain the access date, and contact the controlling agency when the sequence cannot be reconciled. This approach produces a clear record without turning normal update lag into an unsupported claim.
